KULAI, DAP is ready to support the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the upcoming Mahkota state by-election in Kluang, said its Wanita chief Teo Nie Ching.

She said the Kluang DAP division met last Thursday to strategise on securing a win for the BN candidate.

‘DAP’s position is clear: we will back BN, particularly UMNO, in this by-election, reflecting the Unity Government’s collaborative spirit.

‘We’ve conveyed to Kluang DAP members about the leadership’s stance that it’s crucial to help our Unity Government partners win this seat,’ she said during a Health Screening programme in Kulai today.

Teo, who also serves as DAP’s national publicity secretary, added that BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is scheduled to attend a meeting with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Johor this Monday to discuss the Mahkota by-election.

“The Mahkota state seat falls under the Kluang parliamentary constituency, currently held by DAP’s Wong Shu Qi. Therefore, PH and DAP will give their full support and do their best fo
r the Mahkota by-election,” said the Deputy Minister of Communications.

Last Thursday, Ahmad Zahid reportedly said that UMNO’s central leadership had received a list of potential candidates for the Mahkota by-election from the Kluang UMNO Division and the Johor UMNO Liaison Body.

The UMNO president was quoted as saying that a thorough evaluation would be conducted to select the best BN candidate.

The Election Commission has scheduled the Mahkota by-election for Sept 28, with nomination day set for Sept 14 and early voting on Sept 24.

This by-election is being held due to the death of the incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, who passed away on Aug 2 while receiving treatment at the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang.
