10,000 Palm Trees Planted in Thbong Khmum Province

The historical Ponhea Krek district of Cambodia’s Thbong Khmum province has kicked off the planting of 10,000 palm trees.

The launching ceremony took place late last week under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, the Minister of Environment (MoE), with active participation from all stakeholders.

The minister said that the planting of palm trees serves as a joint movement for the community, local authorities, and other players to promote and preserve the palm trees, which are a Cambodian national identity.

It is also in line with the government’s objective to increase the country’s forest cover by 60 percent by 2050, he added.

He called on all Cambodians to plant more palm trees as well as other trees to enrich biodiversity, increase resilience to climate change, and foster socio-economics, which will primarily benefit the community.
