14 Arrested In Joint Operation Aganst Illgeal Gambling Activities

The Police have arrested nine men and five women, aged between 35 and 69, in a joint operation conducted by Woodlands Police Division, Central Police Division and Central Narcotics Bureau, targeting illegal gambling activities on 3 October 2019.

All of the suspects were arrested for offences under the Common Gaming Houses Act along Gambas Crescent. Two of the men and one of the women were additionally arrested for offences under the Remote Gambling Act. Cash amounting close to $2,000 and gambling paraphernalia were seized.

Investigations are ongoing.

Under the Remote Gambling Act, any person involved in unlawful remote gambling shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or to both.

Under the Common Gaming Houses Act, any person gaming in public shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5000 or to an imprisonment term not exceeding 6 months or to both.

The Police take a serious view on all forms of illegal gambling activities and will continue to take tough enforcement action against those who are involved in such activities.
