BUDGET carrier Philippines AirAsia is developing new hubs in the countryside after losing all hope in Manila’s congested international airport, its president said on Wednesday.Dexter Comendador, who sits as the chief executive, said his group is looking at expanding its route network via Cebu and Puerto Princesa, as there exists a slotting problem in the airport in Metro Manila. ‘Our philosophy in doing business is bringing in foreign tourists from our network to the our destinations here in the Philippines,’ he said in an interview.‘Next year we will be opening a new hub-similar to the ones we have in Kalibo and Cebu-in Puerto Princesa.’It is currently developing Cebu as a prime destination for tourists coming from AirAsia’s main hub in Kuala Lumpur.‘We are looking at opening Singapore this year. We are just working on some paper work,’ he said.International destinations of AirAsia from Cebu include South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan. Two of its 14-plane fleet are deployed in the Queen City of the South. In another development, the airline launched an online movement aimed at promoting responsible travel.‘How I Fly calls for responsible travel and the value of generating positive impact on communities, wildlife and the environment. Over 1.5 billion travelers are expected to travel each year by 2020, and we have the power to change our world by simply becoming aware and responsible of our actions,’ Comendador said.(c) 2016 Business Mirror Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc.
