A passenger was caught in possession of undeclared €16,500 and S$2,397 (Singapore dollars) at the Malta International Airport. Customs Department seized the money when officers suspected the person concerned who arrived from Singapore. When he was checked by the x-ray machine he was found to be carrying the money in his luggage.
Customs said that the passenger had just arrived in Malta on a flight from Istanbul. Its officers immediately informed the Police Economic Crimes section about the case. The passenger was given back €10,000, which is the permissible amount he can carry, while the rest of the money was kept until investigations are carried out.
The passenger, who was arrested, is expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
