BOCAUE, Bulacan — The Philippine Azkals are out of contention in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup after losing to Thailand, 1-0, on a late goal at the Philippine Sports Stadium on Friday, November 25.

Sarawut Masuk hit the match’s lone goal in the 81st minute after breaking away from the Azkals’ defense and scoring on a one-on-one with goalie Roland Muller.

The Azkals were very aggresive early on and a couple of scoring opportunities led by Mike Ott and Stephan Schrock.

Though sitting out most of its starters, Thailand was still very impressive on both ends of the field. The Thais too had some good attempts but the goal finally came late in the match.

The Philippines still had a chance to equalize but Misagh Bahadoran’s shot was deflected by Thai keeper and captain Sinthaweerchai Hathairattanakool.

Indonesia beat Singapore, 2-1, in the other Group A match.

With the win, Indonesia clinched the other semi-final spot with Thailand. (EKA)
