Bahrain ICT edge maintained

Manama, Nov. 23 (BNA): Bahrain maintained its competitive edge, ranking 29th in the world and topping all Arab countries for the 5th consecutive year on the ICT Development Index (IDI).

Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed congratulated His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa on the landmark achievement.

He also extended congratulations to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.

Bahrain’s outstanding rankings featured in the Measuring the Information Society Report for 2016, a global survey issued by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

He commended the Government-led efforts over the past decade, developing and deregulating the telecommunications and establishing the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), in addition to other outstanding initiatives.

Bahrain ranked after pioneering countries such as South Korea, Denmark, Iceland, the United Kingdom and Singapore, which achieved landmark strides in the sectors of Information Technology and telecommunications.

The Measuring the Information Society Report, which has been published annually since 2009 of 175 countries, features key ICT data and benchmarking tools to measure the information society b, including the ICT Development Index (IDI).
