“Bakit ko lalabanan family ko?” – Honorio Banario on fighting Eduard Folayang
“Bakit ko lalabananan ang family ko?” – Honorio Banario isn’t interested in fighting Team Lakay brother and ONE lightweight champion Eduard Folayang
When Eduard Folayang won the ONE Championship lightwieght title back in Singapore in November, one of the storylines that came out was the fact that he and Team Lakay brother Honorio ‘The Rock’ Banario are both fighting in ONE’s lightweight division.
When Banario defeated Rajinder Singh Meena back in December, people began to ask if he was open to fight his ‘Kuya’ Eduard, given that he was on a three-fight winning streak in the lightwieght division.
For Banario, it was a no. In fact, he was even open to switching weight classes because he expects Folayang to hold on to the lightweight belt for quite some time.
Friday night at ONE Championship: Kings of Destiny at the Mall of Asia Arena, Banario improved to 4-0 in the lightweight division after starching Jaroslav Jartim with a second round KO. Again, the question was asked. Would he be open to fight Folayang?
The Mankayan, Benguet native remained steadfast in his response.
“Last year pa tinatanong yan sa akin. Bakit ko lalabananan ang family ko?”
“Magkakagulo kami at di na kami magkakapatid. Magiging may gap na, may wall na sa inyo.” Banario added.
If there was any question about how tight Team Lakay is, this should serve as an answer.
Banario, the former ONE featherweight world champion, continued, saying that he has no problems in waiting, given that he’s already held world championship gold before.
“I just wait for my time to come. Naranasan ko naman maging champion.”
For now, “The Rock” is content on winning and winning. He says that he has time, and believes that in time, he could be a two-division ONE champion, the first in the promotion’s history.
“Sa akin, gusto kong manalo pa. May time din na ako ang hahawak sa belt at magiging two-division champion ako”
