Big treat in store with dimsum launch

SUBANG JAYA: In its latest step in embracing the digital era, Star Media Group Bhd has officially launched its very own video-on-demand service, dimsum, on Tuesday.

It was a night of great fanfare at dimsum’s official launch at the Empire Hotel Subang here, with corporate figures, businessmen, the heads of major media outlets and celebrities making an appearance.

After the opening speech by Star Media Group chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow (pic), attendees were given a firsthand view of what dimsum has to offer.

Star Media Group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai  then ran through a brief taster of the content that would be provided.

Attendees were also treated to live performances.

Marking the group’s second phase of its digital transformation plan, dimsum aims to provide Asian content and daily news at the affordable price of RM15 per month.

Up to five users per account can concurrently access a variety of movies and drama series from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore as well as Japanese anime and children animation series.

This means that each user would essentially be paying a mere 10 sen a day, or 50 sen a day for the account, for as much high definition video content as they want.

Not only can they indulge in local and regional cinematic treats, users would also be able to tune to daily news in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin.

With all this content, it becomes clear why the name dimsum was chosen as the word, from the Chinese language, roughly translates into “selection of the heart”.

Starting from December users will be able view content offline by downloading up to ten videos at a time to watch for up 14 days offline.
