Choice Hotels has added to its South Island holdings with the purchase of a third property in Christchurch.

Hotel franchisor Choice Hotels Asia-Pac has bought the 28-room Comfort Inn Riccarton from the Best Western group.

In Christchurch it already owns the Quality Elms Hotel in Papanui and Econo Lodge Canterbury, in Spreydeon.

The chain has more than 270 hotels across New Zealand, Australia and Singapore, with more than 11,000 rooms.

It is a subsidiary of Choice Hotels International, a publicly listed company in the United States with more than 6300 hotels and 500,000 rooms in more than 35 countries and territories.

Choice Hotels Asia-Pac chief executive Trent Fraser said The Comfort, Econo Lodge and Quality brands each offer different levels of pricing.

The Econo Lodge was for the value-conscious traveller and the Quality property offered more amenities, while the new Comfort Inn at Riccarton was a mid-range option for leisure and business travellers.
