Defending Champion Thailand Open Futsal Campaign In Style By Beating Vietnam 4-1

SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 (Bernama) — Defending champion Thailand kicked off their SEA Games title defence in style by defeating Vietnam 4-1 in their opening round robin match at the Panasonic Sports Complex here today.

Thailand showing superior skills and team work took the lead through Suphawut Thueanklang from a sizzling free kick in the 9th minute and added two more goals through Muhammad Osamanmusa in the 18th and 24th minutes respectively, to make it 3-1.

Vietnam reduced the deficit through Nguyen Minh Tri in the 28th minute but Thailand restored the advantage through Jirawat Sornwichian just before the final whistle.

Thailand and Vietnam had squared off in the men\’s final of the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar where the Thais had recorded an overwhelming 8-1 win but futsal was not staged at the 2015 Singapore SEA Games.

Meanwhile, Thailand coach Jose Maria Pazoz Mendez in a press conference after the tournament said he was satisfied with the overall performance of his team, albeit a slow paced first half…..
