Dominant Enterprise aims big in Thailand
JOHOR BARU: Dominant Enterprise Bhd wants to expand its presence in Thailand from the southern part of that country to the central and northern regions.
Deputy managing director Danny Owee Geok Chon said this could be achieved with the commissioning of the company’s new facility in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, by the end of 2016.
He said the RM16.2mil new integrated laminated panel plant and warehouse would also better serve its clients in Penang, Kedah, Perlis and northern Perak.
At present, the company has three manufacturing facilities in Johor – Johor Baru, Kulai and Muar – one in Sungai Buloh, Kuala Lumpur, and one each in Penang and Vietnam.
“Thailand offers good growth prospects to us due to its large population and we have been in the southern provinces since 2013,’’ Owee told StarBiz after the company’s AGM.
He said Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines also offered equally good opportunities for the company because of their huge domestic market.
Owee said Dominant Enterprise already exported its products to Indonesia and the Philippines but the quantity was still small and it planned to increase the volume in the mid to long term.
Its products are also exported to Australia, Japan, Singapore, the United States and Europe.
“Our strategy is to strengthen our position in the domestic market of our export destinations first before we consider setting up a plant,’’ he added.
Owee did not dismiss the possibility of setting up a plant in Indonesia as the company always wanted to be closer to its clients.
He said Dominant Enterprise had submitted a building plan for its new plant in Dengkil and hoped to start the project by the end of this year upon getting approval from the relevant authorities in Selangor.
Owee said the company would consolidate its operations at its existing Sungai Buloh plant as the RM13.3mil Dengkil facilities is expected to start operations in the financial year 2018.
For the financial year ended March 31, 2016, Dominant Enterprise recorded RM12.31mil in net profit on revenue of RM540.57mil against RM22.21mil and RM547.50mil respectively last year FY15.
