Dustin Martin 'shattered' after father denied entry to Bali
AFL superstar Dustin Martin said he was shattered after his father was denied entry into Bali to celebrate Christmas.
Shane Martin touched down this month in Indonesia with his wife when he was taken into a room by authorities and told he was not allowed in, The Herald Sun reports.
Martin, who was deported from Australia because of alleged links to an outlaw motorcycle gang, was sent back to New Zealand.
“I was so confused, I’ve been to Bali before, even after my visa was cancelled and had no problems,” Shane told the newspaper.
He said officials in Indonesia were alerted by the Australian Government not to let him in.
“It’s Australia, they kept saying and they were embarrassed and apologetic.”
Dustin said he can’t understand why Indonesian authorities denied his father entry.
“I was just shattered and really confused. Why would they stop him from going to Bali now? We were there a year ago and nothing changed apart from dad winning his case,” he said.
“I’ve had a good year on the footy field with the club’s success and everything. I’m a really proud Australian and I love this country but this just isn’t a fair go.”
Shane’s lawyers reportedly contacted the Australian government before the trip to Bali and were advised he should travel through Singapore because he would not be allowed to connect in Australia.
His family followed that advice but was still rejected from Indonesia when he arrived at Denpasar Airport.
The family has now decided to spend Christmas in New Zealand.
