Duterte finds inclusion in Forbes list corny

by December 17, 2016 General

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte said Saturday that he finds “very corny” his inclusion in the Forbes’ annual list of Most Powerful People.

“I don’t need it. I said, I’m not powerful, I’m just running a country,” Duterte said in Davao City after his official state visits to Cambodia and Singapore.

“I find it very corny. I do not even impose my leadership on the Filipino people. I have no power,” he added.

Duterte has been listed as 70th most powerful individual in the world.

Forbes has emphasized that “Duterte’s tendency to say what he things, no matter how raw, also keeps him in the headlines.”

“The former mayor of Davao City was elected president of the Philippines in May 2016 on the strength of a campaign that promised the swift execution of drug users and other criminals, and his war on crime has already resulted in the killing of thousands of people,” it added.

But Duterte said it was a “shame” if he had been included in the list because of the drug-related killings.

“If the power mans that killing, attributing to the 5,000 makes me a powerful man by killing Filipinos, that is a shame. I do not accept the title. So what’s the basis? If it’s killing 5,000 people to make me powerful, you think I enjoy killing Filipinos?” the President said.

While Duterte waged his war on drugs, he has said that he was not happy seeing his fellow Filipinos die because of their alleged drug involvement. (Sunnex)
