Elderly woman tied upin Kasimedu, robbed
Hooded robbers threatened an elderly woman at knife-point in her house in Kasimedu and stole 14 sovereigns of jewellery. The robbery occurred at 3 p.m. on Friday while she was alone at her house. According to the police, Lily Pushpa (61) stays with her daughter-in-law Serena on Sheik Maistry Street while her son works in Singapore.
Serena left for church to attend a special prayer on the occasion of Good Friday and Lily Pushpa was sleeping.
Two hooded persons knocked on the door and woke her up. They then managed to enter the house and threatened her at knife-point.
They tied up her arms with a rope to a chair besides gagging her.
Using a duplicate key, they opened a steel bureau and stole over 14 sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹55,000.
On returning from church, Serena was shocked to see her mother-in-law tied up and alerted the neighbours and the police.
A complaint was lodged with the Kasimedu police and further investigation is under way.
