INDIA’S PM TO VISIT INDONESIA, MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay an official visit to Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced today.
It said the visit to Indonesia (from May 29 to 31) and Singapore (May 31 to June 2) were at the invitations of Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo and Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, respectively.
He (Narendra Modi) will also make a brief stopover in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on May 31, 2018, to meet the newly-elected Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said the MEA in a statement.
It said Modi’s official engagements in Jakarta and Singapore included bilateral meetings with the leadership, delegation-level talks, and meetings with the business and Indian communities.
In Singapore, Modi will also deliver the keynote address at the 17th Shangri-La Dialogue.
The MEA said Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, three countries in ASEAN, were strategic partners of India.
India attaches high importance to its relations with the ASEAN region and is committed to deepening its relationship with individual ASEAN member states, within the framework of the government’s ‘Act East Policy’, it said.
The visit would enable the leaders to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest, it added.-
