A NUMBER of key commercial development projects are progressing along the Suva to Nausori corridor, adding to the growth momentum of the Fijian economy.

A team from this newspaper visited several construction sites in Suva, Nakasi and Nausori where several major development projects are slowly taking shape.

Flagstaff Plaza

The new Flagstaff Plaza on Bau St in Suva is progressing with construction work, a collaborated venture between the Fineland Investments Ltd and Fiji Marist Brothers Trust Board Inc.

While the project was slightly delayed after a few objections from several parties; it is evident that the complex is taking shape and going ahead as planned.

The project’s main contractor is Yanjian Group (Fiji) Co Ltd, who are the same contractors that carried out the grandstand and other works at Albert Park, the Ba Hospital among other projects.

The plaza project is being managed by Fraser Clark Architects, architects Design Hut, civil structural engineering by Engineered Designs and building services engineer Edison Consultants.

Damodar development project

A 21-acre plot of land along Grantham Rd in Raiwaqa is earmarked for development by Damodar Group of Companies, adding to their growing portfolios of commercial properties.

It is understood that the group had undergone a few major changes in its Raiwaqa development, with more added features and new concept technology.

The company has also engaged with consultants from Singapore and Las Vegas, who had worked on some of the world’s biggest hotels, entertainment and shopping centre developments.

The development, which is said to be one of Fiji’s most advanced hotel entertainment and retail centre, is also expected to bring about new jobs, business opportunities and potential investors.

Garden City

A lifestyle centre is planned for Garden Complex located along Grantham Rd in Raiwai, Suva.

The entire complex is undergoing reconstruction worth $10 million which commenced in October last year.

Several tenants that used to be housed under the complex have now relocated with the project plans slowly coming into fruition.

The Garden City redevelopment project also adds to the growing number of commercial properties along the Grantham Rd area in Raiwaqa.

It is expected that the project will be completed by the end of this year with new features added to the Marco Polo Holdings Ltdowned complex.

Vitivou Estates

Works on the Vitivou Estates, a commercial development by the Hexagon Group of Hotels in Davuilevu, Nausori, is now taking shape since commencement of construction late last year.

The project, with an estimated cost of about $8.5m, will consist of a modern two-level structure with the ground floor offering a spacious supermarket letting, eight retail shop space, and parking areas.

It is also expected to feature five commercial lots and 144 residential lots.

Hexagon Group has engaged with Cope Construction Ltd as the contractor with Khemindra S Narain as the structural engineer and Design Hut as the architects for the project.
