KL2017: Two National Boxers Advance To Final
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) — Two Malaysian boxers, Muhamad Fuad Mohd Redzuan and Adli Hafidz Mohd Pauzi have succeeded in entering the finals in the light flyweight (49kg) and the light heavyweight (81kg) categories in the bid to clinch gold medals in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games boxing competition.
Muhammad Fuad defeated Lasavongsy Bounpone of Laos while Adli Hafidz beat Muhammad Dinie Hakeem of Singapore in the semi-finals at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here today.
However, another national boxer R.K. Indran failed to get pass Eumir Felix Marcial of Philippines in the semi-finals.
Muhammad Fuad will meet another Thai boxer, Thani Narinram while Adli Hafidz will face Marvin John Nobel Tupas of Philippines in the finals on Thursday.
Adli Hafidz, 28, hoped to bring boxing honours to the country in his SEA Games debut.
“I will be more alert and more prepared in my preparation for the final. I will definitely do my best, pray for me Malaysia,” he told reporters.
Earlier Muhammad Fuad, 26, when met by Bernama said he would be studying the style of his next opponent.
“Coach Azmi (Md Yunus) had advised me to be careful with the boxer from Laos who was crafty with his head,” he said.
The boxer from Negeri Sembilan was injured on the nose after being hit by Lasavongsy but he was determined to appear in the final.
“Tomorrow my coach and I will looking into Thani’s tactics and I hope to be lucky on home ground on Thursday,” he said.
Malaysia achieved their best boxing results of two gold medals at the 2009 edition in Laos through Muhammad Farkhan Mohd Haron (75kg) and Muhd Fairus Azwa in the 81kg categories.
