THE FIJI 7s team suffered a huge blow after Semi Kunatani was ruled out of the Singapore 7s tournament because of an injury he sustained in Fiji’s 28-14 loss to Samoa yesterday.
Head coach Ben Ryan confirmed this to Time Sports after Fiji’s 38-0 win against Portugal.
“Kunatani is out of the tournament because of a hamstring injury,” Ryan said.
“He is a world-class player and player of the tournament in that last game (Hong Kong), now we will play with 11 players.”
Ryan said all other teams had encounted the same problem in past tournaments.
He said the focus was to manage with the available players.
“Other teams have the same problems in the season. Now we got to manage that and make sure to select a side appropriately for the next game.”
With Kunatani out, Veremalua has been shifted to cover for the wing with Amenoni Nasilasila being used as cover up. Skipper Osea Kolinisau is another choice Ryan could use for the remainder of the tournament.
