Lady Pirates out to keep semis hopes alive

Lyceum of the Philippines University is looking to stay in the hunt for a semifinals berth.

Lyceum of the Philippines University fights for dear life in the semifinals berth race in Group A of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Lady Pirates will take on an already eliminated San Sebastian College side at 6:30 p.m. The match will air via livestream.

LPU parades a 1-2 win-loss record but still has an outside chance for a seat in the best-of-three semis.

All the Lady Pirates need to do is sweep their remaining games and hope that Ateneo de Manila University (3-1) and Far Eastern University (2-1) won’t reach four wins to force a playoff.

LPU suffered a 23-25, 20-25, 20-25, defeat at the hands of the Lady Eagles last Sept. 16.

The Lady Pirates will play without head coach Emil Lontoc, who is in Singapore with the national team competing in the Southeast Asian Beach Volleyball Championships.

The Lady Stags bowed out of contention after absorbing an 11-25, 13-25, 13-25, beating against Ateneo. SSC-R holds a 1-3 slate
