7.16pm: Portugal get run ragged and go down 26-0, the rev up at halftime working a treat for the Eagles.

7.06pm: Halftime in the Bowl semi and USA lead Portugal 7-0. Next up of more interest is the Plate semi-final between Australia and New Zealand.

WHAT’S HAPPENED SO FAR?

It’s not pretty reading from a Kiwi point of view as a shocking 24-0 loss to France in pool play meant a quarter-final meeting with the Blitzbokke.

They didn’t get the job done there, going down 12-7 and relegated to the Plate section of the Singapore draw.

Coming second in their pool wasn’t easy either with their wins over Canada and USA wholly unconvincing.

So, what does this mean for the NZ side?

Points are at a premium at this stage in the 2016 series and Fiji have a five-point buffer already – this could stretch to as much as around 14 after tonight’s proceedings.

If the World Series is slipping away then form leading up to Rio is reason to keep an eye on the action.
