Locals eyeing ASEAN for work: job bank poll
Most local businesses surveyed (55 percent) by the job bank reported an increasing need for employees to be stationed in Southeast Asian in the next three years.
The 10 members of ASEAN are Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
104’s survey, which was conducted for the month of April, found that the top three ASEAN countries with the most job opportunities were Vietnam, with 1,711 job openings, followed by the Philippines (1,440) and Singapore (802).
Countries that experienced the largest growth in job opportunities compared with April 2015 were the Philippines (148 percent), Thailand (30 percent) and Myanmar (22 percent).
These figures included both jobs from Taiwanese companies as well as local and other international companies with branches in the region.
Overall, 104 found that for every four overseas job opportunities, one was in an ASEAN country. Relative to the number of jobs in the region in 2008, the number of jobs in ASEAN countries in 2016 was 5.67 times higher, the job bank said.
Taiwanese Locals Southbound
Seventy percent of the businesses surveyed said that there wasn’t enough local talent to fill positions in ASEAN nations.
However, as Taiwanese businesses shift their industries to South and Southeast Asia, job seekers are headed in the same direction, said 104’s senior vice president, Jason Chin (晉麗明).
Locals are reportedly more willing to work in Southeast Asia than they used to be, Chin said.
Specifically, he said, willingness had increased by 18.6 percent from 2014 to 2016.
Other figures, such as willingness to work in China, which fell 1.2 percentage points, or overseas in general, which grew 5.8 percentage points, paled in comparison.</span>
