Man Convicted For Signing Tenancy Agreement On Behalf Of Vice Syndicate

On 17 July 2019, a 39-year-old male Chinese national, Jiang Hualei, was convicted in court for cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

In exchange for money, Jiang had assisted a vice syndicate by signing a tenancy agreement to rent a unit on their behalf. Jiang did not stay in the said unit, which was found to be used to conduct vice activities. Jiang had deceived the house owner into believing that he was the person occupying the premise and observing the covenants of the lease agreement.

Pursuant to Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, any person convicted under that section shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

The Police will continue to work with members of the public on information related to vice activities and will take tough enforcement action against those involved in such activities. Foreigners who are involved in vice activities may also be repatriated upon conviction.
