Man To Be Charged With Flying An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Within The Special Event Area On The National Day Parade 2019
A 21-year-old man will be charged in court on 2 October 2019 for flying an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at the Special Event Area around the Padang during the National Day Parade 2019 on 9 August 2019.
On 9 August 2019 at about 7.55pm, the Police spotted a UAV flying along Raffles Avenue. Through ground enquires, police officers established the location of the man who operated the UAV and detained him. The UAV was seized as a case exhibit.
The National Day Parade 2019, which was held at the Padang, had been declared as an ‘Enhanced Security Special Event’ under the Public Order Act on 9 August 2019 from 0000hrs to 2359hrs. At the same period, the area around the Padang, which includes Raffles Avenue, had been designated as a Special Event Area; where Police had imposed security restrictions. In particular, it was an offence to fly UAVs in the Special Event Area without a valid permit, under Section 26(2A) (b)(i) of the Public Order Act, Chapter 257A punishable under Section 26(3) of the same Act. The offence carries imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or a fine not exceeding $20,000, or both.
