MS Dhoni speaks of ‘personal connect’ with Chennai Super Kings ahead of IPL auction Jan 21, 2018 13:39 IST
MS Dhoni reiterated his emotional bond with Chennai Super Kings, besides revealing the strategy the team would adopt during the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction slated to take place in Bengaluru on January 27 and 28.
“I have a personal connect with the CSK. I have been part of them right from the first year. Last two years, they have not been part of the IPL, but our fan following has grown up. People have belief in the brand,” said Dhoni while launching his cricket academy in Singapore on Saturday.
Dhoni, who recently revealed CSK’s plan to go after ace spinner R Ashwin in the auction, said the franchise has to adopt a judicious approach in the auction keeping aside emotions.
“Right now the bigger issue would be getting into the auction and getting the players that we really want. We would try to get some of the players back, who played for us in the last season.
“But, as I said, we have to keep our emotions aside for the simple reason that if some other franchise raises the price for some particular player; we should be bold enough to let him go,” the 36-year-old said.
Dhoni who wants to promote grassroots-level cricket development across the world, is working with some of the private organisations to set up cricket academy across Asia.
Speaking on the importance of sports in life, the Ranchi star said, “”Sports should be an essential driver for the development of a child’s character. Apart from being fit, you can learn leadership and other important aspects of life via sports.
“Every kid should play an outdoor sport. MS Dhoni Cricket Academy is not only about producing cricket talent but our academy’s vision is to guide a kid to become a champion in life via sports.”
