Philippines Revive Hopes For Semi-finals Slot

YANGON, Nov 22 (Bernama) — Joint hosts Philippines revived their hopes for a semi-finals spot after sharing the spoils in a 2-2 draw against Indonesia in their second Group A match of the AFF Suzuki Cup Football Championship at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bulacan, Philippines today.

In the match, Indonesia broke the deadlock as early as the sixth minute after Fachruddin Aryanto nodded home a cross from Stefano Lilipaly’s free kick only to see the Azkals level the tie through Misagh Bahadoran in the 31st minute and the result remained 1-1 until the end of first half.

After the restart, Indonesia restored their lead through Boas Salossa’s low drive in the 68th minute before Philip Younghusband saved the blushes for the host side with the equaliser in the 82nd minute.

The Philippines will meet defending champions Thailand in the final preliminary match at the same venue while Indonesia will square-off with Singapore at Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila. Both matches will be held on Friday.

Earlier, Thailand booked their semi-finals spot after securing their second straight win by defeating Singapore 1-0.
