PM, Maltese counterpart participate in joint economic forum
AMMONNEWS – Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour and Maltese counterpart, Joseph Muscat, attended a Jordanian-Maltese economic forum that Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), has organized Monday evening, with the participation of ministers and businessmen from both countries.
Ensour stressed the importance of such communication between officials and businessmen from both countries, in terms of cementing mutual ties, as trade exchange between the two countries remains below aspirations.
He spoke about economic and social challenges arising from the Syrian refugee crisis. However, the prime minister assured, the crisis didn’t halt the reform process to stimulate the economy and the investment environment.
He said easing the conditions and rules of origin leads to greater opportunities for trade exchange, facilitates the entry of Jordanian goods to European markets, attracts more investment and creates more jobs, asking for Malta’s support in this area.
The premier added that Jordan has an advanced infrastructure services, trained and competent workforce, effective and solid banking system, modern communication networks and special economic zones, as well as an advanced logistic services in the southern port of Aqaba.
The prime minister talked about the free trade agreements between Jordan and major economic blocs, which guarantee the entry of goods to one billion consumers in the Arab region, the United States of America, Canada, Singapore, Turkey and the European Union, calling upon Maltese businessmen to set up their businesses in Jordan, which constitutes a gateway for business in the region.
