Pontianak hosts Independence Day fish cooking competition

Pontianak, West Kalimantan is the latest city to host the Fish Festival and Archipelago Fish Cooking Competition. The event will be held as a part of Indonesia’s 72nd Independence Day celebration.

The fish cooking competition is a partnership program between the government and www.primarasa.co.id that aims to find the best cook that can come up with a delicious and nutritious seafood dish.

The winner of this competition will get the opportunity to participate in a workshop and cook for President Joko Widodo during the Independence Day celebration on August 17.

“Pontianak, Kalimantan is one of the 13 provinces that have been chosen as the audition locations for the fishing competition that is themed ‘Pesona Ikan Khatulistiwa’ (The Wonder of The Archipelago’s Fishes). Offering traditional cuisines from West Kalimantan, the committee will provide a variety of fish such as belida, patin and lais,” explained the tourism ministry’s head of cultural promotion, Wawan Gunawan.

The competition will be held at Taman Alun Kapuas on August 1 and will be open to all Indonesian nationalities aged between 18 to 55. The judging criteria involve taste, presentation, creativity and hygiene.

Those who want to sign up for the contest can register at www.primarasa.co.id or fill in a physical form that has been prepared by the committee and is available at the office of West Kalimantan youth, sports and creative economy department on Jl. The event’s committee has so far selected the 12 best contestants from previous auditions that were held in Batam (July 16), Gorontalo (July 18), Biak in Papua (July 25) and Jakarta (July 28). (asw)
