Senior judoka Horas Manurung settled for a silver medal after bowing out to Thai Masayuki Terada, who won with an ippon, in the SEA Games final match of the men’s 81 kilograms category at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) on Sunday.

Both senior judokas showed their skills from the beginning. In the decisive golden score, however, Terada successfully made a throw, securing him an ippon victory.

“Several minutes before the golden score, I was trying to take advantage of my opponent’s techniques,” Horas said after the match.  “However, I failed to do so. I was aiming for gold but God has not allowed it.”

Horas won a gold medal in the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore, competing in the 90-kg class. This year, the Kuala Lumpur organizers did not stage the 90-kg class.

On Saturday, judokas Ikhsan Apriyadi and Mochammad Syaiful Raharjo each won a gold medal for the national judo team. Ikhsan, playing in the men’s 73-kg category, won over Vietnam’s Nguyen Tan Cong while Syaiful defeated Chong Wei Fu of Malaysia in the men’s 66-kg category.
