Singapore government denies Duterte endorsement

by April 22, 2016 General

THE Singapore Embassy in Manila denied Friday endorsing presidential aspirant Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the embassy said that posts about the endorsement of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of the candidacy of the Davao City mayor “is untrue.”

“The Embassy has learned of a FB (Facebook) post mischievously alleging that the Prime Minister of Singapore endorses a presidential candidate for the upcoming presidential election in the Philippines.”

This came after photos of Lee with the caption, “Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is the only presidential candidate that could make the Philippines like Singapore.”

“Singapore does not endorse any candidate. The choice is for Filipinos alone to make. We wish the Philippines well in the conduct of its elections,” the statement said.

This is not the first time an organization has rejected endorsing the presidential candidate.

Even Pope Francis allegedly endorsed his candidacy, but the Vatican denied this. (CVB/Sunnex)
