Six Members Of The Public Presented With Public Spiritedness Awards And 22 Organisations Presented With Community Partnership Awards

In a ceremony held at Jurong Police Division on 17 June 2019, six members of the public were commended for their public spiritedness, and 22 organisations were commended for their strong community partnership with the Police.

Cases Commended for Public Spiritedness Awards

In the first case, on 22 February 2019, Mr Tan Kay Huat had assisted the Police in a case of fraudulent possession of cash cards. Mr Tan spotted a man at a multi-storey car park along Jurong West Street 91 looking into vehicles. The man saw Mr Tan and attempted to run away. Mr Tan gave chase immediately and managed to detain him before calling the Police, which led to his arrest.

In the second case, on 16 March 2019, four Citizens on Patrol (COP) members from Bukit Batok Neighbourhood Police Centre namely Ms Winnie Tan, Mdm Fatimah Binte Hayon, Mr Abdul Hamid Bin Abdul Aziz and Mr Leow Boon Swee were around the vicinity of Bukit Batok East Avenue 3 when they spotted a suspicious man throwing shoes down from the fourth floor of a block, and subsequently picking them up from the ground floor. They called the Police immediately and at the same time continue to observe his movements. The man was subsequently arrested for theft of shoes.

For the third case, on 30 May 2019, Mr Edmund Shao had witnessed a group of about six people fighting along Jelebu Road. Mr Shao immediately called the Police. However, the group left in a vehicle before police’s arrival. Mr Shao took note of the registration number of the said vehicle and provided this information to the Police, which led to the speedy arrest of the group.

Cases Commended for Community Partnership Award

In 2018, four staff from the Singapore Post Head Office had prevented ten victims from falling prey to scams on ten different occasions, and had advised them to make a police report. Their timely intervention prevented the victims from losing at least $5,500.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Devrajan Bala, Commander of Jurong Police Division said, It is indeed heartening to see the strong working partnership between the Police and the community. The strong sense of civic-mindedness and courage displayed by these exemplary citizens have helped to bring a quicker resolution to the incidents. The strong collaboration and support rendered by our community partners have also helped to prevent and deter crimes. Their actions are a good example for others and a testament to the strong sense of partnership between the Police and the community.
