Tanjung Pinang in Riau Islands is set to host Penyengat Island Festival (FPP) from July 22 to 24 in Penyengat Island.

The three-day festivity will feature more than 20 activities and three main events and be held in several locations, such as Adat Indra Perkasa Hall, Village Hall located near Penyengat Port and the Bulang village area.

“The festival will feature three main events, namely Malay Fashion Carnival, Melayu Parade, and Muslim and Melayu Fashion Bazaar. This event is targeting crossborder tourism since it’s located close to Batam and Singapore,” said Tanjung Pinang Mayor Lis Darmansyah.

“The committee has coordinated with us and we are targeting to attract 300 foreign and 12,000 domestic tourists at the festival. Hopefully we can exceed this target,” said Tourism Ministry’s Archipelago Marketing Development deputy Esthy Reko Astuti.

“This event can increase the awareness for tourism and Malay culture, improve marine industry and increase the number of foreign and domestic tourists since Penyengat Island is a border area,” added Esthy.

In 2016, Riau Islands welcomed 92,948 foreign tourists. This year, the province aims to increase the number to three million. (kes)
