The Age tablet wins best app at Asia Digital Media Awards
The Age tablet app has won the prize for best tablet app in Asia at the Asia Digital Media Awards.
WAN-IFRA, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, announced the award last night.
Entries from throughout the Asia-Pacific region were in contention for the prestigious awards.
The Age editor-in-chief Mark Forbes said the award was a fantastic recognition of the work of The Age‘s tablet team. “It’s an app that looks great and showcases the best of our journalism every day. It combines the very best of our writing with the latest innovations in technology,” he said.
The Age has a cross-platform reach of 2.4 million people per week and the most engaged news app audience in Australia.
Each month, the app is enjoyed by tens of thousands of readers in cities and towns around the globe, averaging 60 million page views.
The Age tablet editor, Fergus Shiel, welcomed the award as a tribute to the dedication of the app’s dedicated production team and an endorsement of The Age‘s digital journalism.
“We are honoured by this award, which is a credit to the reporters, digital producers, photographers, artists and techs at The Age whose skill and hard work have made it possible.
“And we thank our devoted readers both for their continued support and their belief in our journalism.”
Since its launch in 2010, The Age app has garnered numerous accolades in Asia and Australia.
The app is backed by a digital-first newsroom, built upon groundbreaking design and paid for by subscription.
The Age digital editor, Michael Schlechta, said it was well deserved recognition of the work that Fergus and his team put into every edition of the app.
“We believe it is an excellent digital offering that consistently delivers the best of our journalism to our readers.”
The app’s depth of content, design, usability and interactive graphics place it among the global vanguard of media innovation.
WAN-IFRA, based in Paris, France, and Darmstadt, Germany, with subsidiaries in Singapore and India, is the global organisation of the world’s newspapers and news publishers.
