The best buildings are functional and beautiful at the same time. Architecture and design website Architizer recently honoured the top new buildings in the world at its annual A+ Awards.

From thousands of entries, winners were selected by both a jury and popular-choice vote in each of 113 categories. A selection of the jury’s winners is below – you can read the complete list here.

Best Mixed Use Space – House of Vans, a creative venue in London for skateboarding enthusiasts.

Best Apartment – Pivot, a New York studio with transforming walls and a secret bedroom.

Best Hotel/Resort – Manshausen Island Resort, a hotel in the Steigen Archipelago off the coast of Northern Norway.

Best Healthcare/Wellness Centre – Naman Retreat Pure Spa, a retreat in Danang, Vietnam.

Best Religious Building – Crematorium Hofheide, a crematorium in Holsbeek, Belgium.

Best Large Private House – The Greja House, a family home in Singapore.

Best Restaurant – Mirrors, a restaurant in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, a popular destination during cherry blossom season.

Best Home Interior – The Jerry House, a holiday home at Thailand’s Cha Am Beach for a family with four sons.

Best Kindergarten – Hanazono Kindergarten and Nursery, a school in Miyakojima, Japan, that was built to withstand typhoons.

Best Residential Concept – Golden Ratio, a four-unit luxury apartment building in Ghent, Belgium.

Best Low Rise Office – Termeh office, a retail and office building in Hamadan, Iran.

Best Factory – Valdemonjas Winery, a family owned wine-making business in the Ribera de Duero area of Spain.

Best Apartment Building – The Great Wall of Wa, a 12-unit complex in Western Australia. The rammed-earth structure was built for short-term housing during cattle mustering season.

Best Hotel Concept – Zulal Destination Spa + Resort, a planned hotel in Qatar.

Best Museum – Biesbosch Museum Island, a contemporary art museum in Werkendam, Netherlands.

Best Small Private Home – Colorado Outward Bound School Micro Cabins, a set of micro dormitories for outdoor educators in Leadville, Col.
