by April 18, 2016 General

President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday joined the rest of the country in congratulating the Kenya Rugby Sevens team for making history by winning the Singapore Sevens Cup final. In his congratulatory message, Uhuru said: “You have made us proud. Our star continues to shine as a powerhouse in sports.”

“A brilliant, confident and powerful effort has earned Team Kenya a richly deserved victory,” the President said. Deputy President William Ruto also congratulated the team saying: “Hongera to the Kenya Sevens team for making history by winning their first ever World Series Cup title.” Kenya Rugby Sevens beat Fiji 30-7 to win the cup.

This was Kenya’s first appearance in a circuit final since 2013 when Kenyan lost to England. Collins Injera, whose penalty kick sent Kenya to the finals, was named man of the match. He scored two tries in the final. Kenya scored four of the six tries in the first half to lead 20-0 at half-time.
