Visit of Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean to the State of Qatar, 17 to 20 November 2019

Senior Minister (SM) and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean is on a working visit in Doha, Qatar from 17 to 20 November 2019.

SM Teo called on Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani in the morning of 18 November 2019. The leaders were pleased to renew ties since their last meeting during the State Visit of Sheikh Tamim to Singapore in October 2017. They reaffirmed the warm relations and substantive cooperation between Qatar and Singapore, and had a wide-ranging and frank exchange of views on domestic and regional developments.

In the afternoon, SM Teo called on Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani. Both leaders, as co-chairs of the Singapore-Qatar High Level Joint Committee, welcomed the positive progress made through the Implementation Monitoring Mechanism (IMM) platform, and discussed ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation. The previous IMM meeting, co-chaired by the Foreign Ministers of both countries, was convened on 28 August 2019 in Singapore.

SM Teo also met Minister of Municipality and Environment Eng. Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Subaie. They had an engaging discussion on issues of common interest, such as urban planning, food security and climate change. Both sides welcomed further exchanges in sustainable development and urban management, particularly in the area of waste management.

In the evening, SM Teo attended a reception with Singaporeans based in Qatar.

SM Teo is accompanied by Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, and Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkifli, Members of Parliament Christopher De Souza, and Sitoh Yih Pin, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and other agencies.
