Phnom Penh: H.E Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, presided over the Earth Day 2025 event on April 29, emphasizing measures and collaboration with relevant parties to manage fisheries resources sustainably.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the event, held under the theme ‘Sustainable Management of Fisheries Resources,’ took place in Phnom Penh and saw participation from H.E. Igor Driesmans, Ambassador of the European Union to Cambodia, and Ms. Rebekah Bell, Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations in Cambodia, among other stakeholders. The minister extended a warm welcome and expressed gratitude to all participants for attending the ‘Earth 2025 Day.’
H.E. Dith Tina highlighted the importance of the fisheries sub-sector as a key theme for the year, noting its vital role as a source of nutrition and protein for the Cambodian population. He praised the Fisheries Administration for their responsible efforts and collaboration with development partners in strengthening law enforcement, eliminating illegal fishing, and conserving both freshwater and marine fisheries resources. The minister cited many satisfactory achievements in these areas.
The minister further encouraged sustained cooperation with all relevant parties to ensure the continued sustainable management of fisheries resources. He acknowledged and thanked the European Union, FAO, UNIDO, AFD, and GIZ, among others, as crucial partners in the successful implementation of these efforts.
