Phnom penh: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, hosted a high-level Chinese delegation led by Hon. Dr. Zhang Zhichuan, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Shaanxi Province, at the National Assembly Palace this morning.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Khuon Sudary highlighted the significance of the visit in fostering parliamentary cooperation, emphasizing that such exchanges offer opportunities to expand cooperation in new areas while strengthening the traditional bonds of friendship between the two countries. These ties, built on mutual trust, respect, understanding, and benefit, trace back to the historic foundations laid by the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk and Chinese leaders Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai.
Samdech also pointed out that the bilateral relations have been further advanced under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, and H.E. Xi Jinping, among others. She underscored the importance of the ‘Diamond Cooperation Framework and Action Plan 2024-2028,’ which aims to elevate the partnership to new heights by building a Cambodia-China Community of Shared Future in the New Era.
Dr. Zhang introduced Shaanxi Province as a crucial industrial hub in central China, highlighting its key development pillars: agriculture, culture and tourism, energy and electricity, and mineral resources and technology. He stressed the importance of youth exchanges to foster long-term friendship, noting the need for more cultural and civilizational understanding between the young people of both regions.
Samdech Khuon Sudary emphasized the role of people-to-people cooperation in complementing national-level bilateral relations. She lauded the sister-city partnership between Siem Reap and Shaanxi for its role in advancing tourism, culture, and education exchanges.
The Shaanxi delegation extended invitations to explore further cooperation in agriculture and tourism and to participate in the China Taiyuan International Energy Forum in September 2025. Samdech Khuon Sudary reaffirmed China’s crucial role as Cambodia’s strategic economic partner, aiding in its journey toward becoming a high-income developed country by 2050.
She expressed deep gratitude to China for its support in Cambodia’s socio-economic development and its assistance amid the Cambodia-Thailand border issue. Samdech reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and respect for international law, highlighting the country’s adherence to the ceasefire agreement facilitated by international leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
In conclusion, Dr. Zhang expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended by the Cambodian side, remarking that the Shaanxi delegation felt ‘at home’ during their visit.
