Dhaka: A court here has ordered the inclusion of section 302 of the Penal Code in the attempted murder case involving Sharif Osman Hadi, the convenor of Inqilab Mancha and an independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency in the 13th National Election. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad issued the order following a request by the cases investigating officer. Sub-Inspector Roknuzzaman, the General Registration Officer at Paltan Police Station Court, confirmed this development. On Saturday, Inspector Faisal Ahmed of the Detective Branch of police, who is also the investigating officer, submitted an application to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. The application sought to add section 302 to the existing charges, following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi. The application outlined that the primary accused, Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud, and his unidentified accomplices were allegedly involved in a conspiracy aimed at creating chaos in the country following the election schedule announcement on December 11. Their actions were intended to obstruct the upcoming national election, spread fear, and undermine the morale of candidates. As part of this conspiracy, on December 12, while Sharif Osman Hadi was returning from election campaigning, he was shot at by the accused on a motorcycle in an attempt to kill him. The attack occurred on Box Culvert Road near the Bijoynagar water tank under Paltan Police Station. Hadi was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital due to his deteriorating condition. Eventually, he was moved to Singapore for advanced medical care. Unfortunately, he passed away on December 18, and his body was returned to Bangladesh on December 19. The case, initially filed as an attempted murder, involved charges under sections 120(B)/326/307/109/34 of the Penal Code. However, due to the severity of the incident and Hadis subsequent death, the authorities deemed it necessary to include section 302 to ensure a thorough investigation. Following the shooting incident, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Mancha, filed the original case at Paltan Police Station on December 14.
