Defence Ministry: Cambodia Adheres to Diplomatic and Peaceful Solutions

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of National Defence has reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving disputes through diplomatic and peaceful means, while also emphasising the importance of maintaining peaceful, stable, and cooperative borders with its neighbouring countries.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the statement followed an armed clash between Cambodian and Thai forces early this morning, which resulted in the death of a Cambodian soldier. The Ministry of National Defence highlighted Cambodia’s dedication to defending its territorial integrity at all costs.

The incident occurred in Techo Morokot village, Morokot commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province, when Thai troops allegedly opened fire on a long-established Cambodian military trench. The ministry stressed that Cambodia does not seek such clashes and will continue discussions with the Thai Ministry of Defence to find a common solution, restore normalcy quickly, and prevent such incidents from recurring.

In addition, the ministry urged the public not to spread or believe false information on social media that could destabilise the border situation or negatively affect bilateral military relations and the daily lives of citizens on both sides. It further advised the public to rely solely on verified information from official sources, particularly press releases issued by the Ministry of National Defence.
