DU Fine Arts Celebrates Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin’s Birth Anniversary

Dhaka: The 111th birth anniversary of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin was celebrated today at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University (DU), with a series of day-long programmes. The celebrations began with a wreath-laying ceremony at Shilpacharya's tomb.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, attended the event as the chief guest. Paying rich tribute to Shilpacharya, Dr. Khan remarked that the artist is an integral part of the national identity. He noted that through his works of art, Shilpacharya highlighted the nation's problems during various crises in society and national life.

Dr. Khan further emphasized that events like these can help unite the nation. Earlier in the day, the Vice-Chancellor inaugurated an art exhibition at the Zainul Gallery.

The event was presided over by the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Professor Dr. Md. Azharul Islam Sheikh. Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, and Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed attended as special guests.

A seminar was also organized at the Osman Jamal Auditorium, featuring Honorary Professor of the Department of Oriental Arts, Dr. Abdus Sattar, as the chief guest. The Chairman of the Department of History of Art, Dr. Sheikh Monir Uddin, delivered the commemorative speech.
