Foreign Diplomats and Observers Note Clear Ceasefire Violations by Thai Side

Phnom penh: Members of the diplomatic corps, together with representatives of UN agencies and international organisations, have expressed concern and noted clear violations of the ceasefire agreement committed by the Thai side.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, at a press briefing this morning, H.E. Nong Sakal, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), stated that since August 1, 2025, the MFAIC has organised four field visits for members of the diplomatic community and international organisations to inspect the situation along the border.

During these on-site inspections, diplomats and observers witnessed a number of actions that constituted breaches of the ceasefire agreement. These actions included the installation of barbed wire and black nets, placement of tire barricades, firing of rubber-bullet slingshots, drone incursions into Cambodian territory, digging of trenches, construction of troop shelters, movement of armed forces, destruction of Cambodian civilian infrastructure, and the unlawful detention of 18 Cambodian soldiers, who remain in custody to this day.

A French diplomat expressed serious concern and specifically noted violations such as Thai troops placing barbed wire around Cambodian civilian homes. The spokesperson added that diplomats and observers have appealed to both sides to exercise utmost restraint, pursue dialogue, and seek a peaceful resolution in accordance with international law so that the situation can return to normalcy as soon as possible.
