H.E. Ke Kim Yan Urges Calm Amid Border Tensions, Calls on Thailand to Respect Agreements

Phnom penh: In a public address, H.E. Ke Kim Yan, a Member of Parliament and Member of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, has called on the public to remain patient and trust in the Royal Government’s efforts to resolve border issues with Thailand. He also urged Thailand to fully respect existing border and a recent ceasefire agreement.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Ke Kim Yan spoke on August 26 during a visit to Chork Chey village, O’ Beichoan commune, O’ Chrov district, a community directly affected by recent Thai military encroachment activities. During his visit, he met with residents and inspected the area. On the previous day, August 25, Thai troops reportedly attempted to extend a barbed-wire fence into Cambodian territory but were repelled by local villagers and authorities.

H.E. Ke Kim Yan affirmed that Cambodia, under the leadership of Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, is handling the situation with determination and wisdom to protect the nation’s territorial integrity. He asked the population to remain calm, united, and confident in the Royal Government’s leadership.

Cambodia has repeatedly pressed Thailand to honour the ceasefire and commitments made during the recent extraordinary Regional Border Committee (RBC) meetings. The Kingdom emphasised that both sides must avoid any provocative actions that could escalate tensions. Cambodia insists that all border matters must be resolved through established mechanisms, specifically the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) and the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU 2000).

In concluding, H.E. Ke Kim Yan reminded local communities to prioritise their health and take precautions against seasonal diseases during the rainy season.
