Media Oversight Restructured Under Party Central Committee’s Propaganda and Training Board

Vientiane: A signing ceremony on July 8 marked the official transfer of media oversight from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to the Propaganda and Training Board of the Party Central Committee. This pivotal move was formalized through a memorandum signed by Mr. Khamphan Pheuyavong, Head of the Propaganda and Training Board and Chairman of the Party Central Committee Theory Council, and Suansavanh Viyaket, Minister of Culture and Tourism. The event saw the presence of senior officials from media agencies and pertinent government departments.

According to Lao News Agency, Mr. Khampheuy Philapha, Director of the Department of Organization and Personnel at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, announced the official transfer of responsibility for several national media institutions. These include the Department of Mass Media, Lao News Agency, Lao National Radio, Lao National Television, and the Lao Press in Foreign Languages, along with their personnel, budgets, and assets.

The newly restructured media framework comprises one department and four primary technical units, totaling 42 divisions. Specifically, these include six divisions under the Department of Mass Media, eight under the Lao News Agency, nine under Lao National Radio, 13 under Lao National Television, and six under the Lao Press in Foreign Languages. The number of divisions is expected to be revised following recommendations from the organizational restructuring committee.
