Singapore: Singapore recorded 29,864 live births in 2025, down 11.4 percent from 2024, while registered deaths rose marginally by 0.2 percent to 26,499, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said on Monday.
According to Nam News Network, the Report on Registration of Births and Deaths 2025 highlighted that Chinese babies accounted for the largest share of live births at 56.6 percent. This was followed by Malays at 22.5 percent, Indians at 11.5 percent, and other ethnic groups at 9.4 percent.
The report further detailed that Malays continued to record the highest birth rate at 11.8 births per 1,000 residents. Indians followed with a birth rate of 7.3 per 1,000, while Chinese had the lowest birth rate at 5.3 per 1,000 residents.
In terms of mortality, cancer was identified as the leading cause of death in 2025, with heart and hypertensive diseases ranking second. Together, these causes accounted for 52.1 percent of all registered deaths. The report also noted that diseases of the lung and respiratory system constituted 24.7 percent of deaths, followed by cerebrovascular diseases at 5.6 percent.
Additionally, deaths resulting from unnatural causes, encompassing accidents, suicides, and other external factors, made up 2 percent of all registered deaths.
