Phnom Penh: Cambodia and India have agreed to deepen their cooperation in the legal sector, marking a step towards a more comprehensive and strategic bilateral partnership. The agreement was reached during a meeting at the ministry’s office here on May 7, between Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, H.E. Koeut Rith, and the Indian Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Deputy Prime Minister Koeut Rith extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Bawitlung on his recent appointment as India’s top envoy to Cambodia. He expressed optimism that bilateral relations between the two countries would be further strengthened during the ambassador’s term.
Both sides acknowledged the positive progress in past collaborative efforts between the Cambodian Ministry of Justice and the Indian Embassy. They underscored the significance of further strengthening and broadening their legal collaboration.
Key areas of discussion included the ongoing development of a bilateral treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and a draft extradition treaty. These initiatives are intended to establish a stronger legal framework that will facilitate deeper and more effective judicial cooperation between Cambodia and India.
