Cambodia Refutes Thai Accusations Amid Ongoing Border Tensions

Phnom penh: The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) H.E. Chum Sounry has categorically rejected baseless accusations against Cambodia made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand during its briefing to the Diplomatic Corps in Bangkok yesterday.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Chum Sounry emphasized that Cambodia did not initiate the conflict but has instead consistently shown restraint in the face of Thai military provocations. The spokesperson highlighted that the current border tensions are a result of Thailand’s repeated incursions into Cambodian territory, which violate the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and international law.

H.E. Chum Sounry further dismissed Thailand’s claims of self-defence as unfounded, asserting that Cambodia’s armed forces have only acted in proportionate response to protect its sovereignty and citizens following cross-border incursions and unprovoked artillery fire by Thailand.

The spokesperson also cri
ticized Thailand’s allegations of Cambodian ‘disinformation’, describing them as attempts to shift blame and avoid accountability for ceasefire violations committed by Thailand.

Cambodia, as reiterated by the spokesperson, remains aligned with international law and humanitarian principles, and its military actions have never targeted civilian populations as alleged by Thailand.

Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire agreement reached during the Special Meeting on July 28, 2025, in Malaysia. The country continues to engage in the implementation of this agreement through ASEAN mechanisms, emphasizing its dedication to peace.

The MFAIC has strongly condemned the continued provocations by Thai armed forces and has called on Thailand to respect Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, in line with the UN Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and international law principles.

Cambodia has urged Thailand to cease military provocations and unilateral actions that threaten civilian security and ris
k further escalation. Furthermore, Cambodia is calling for Thailand to match its public commitments to peace with credible actions on the ground by implementing the ceasefire agreement earnestly and to avoid further actions and disinformation that threaten the fragile peace along the border.

Finally, Cambodia reaffirms its dedication to resolving outstanding issues through peaceful means, in accordance with international law, the 2000 MoU, and the ceasefire agreement.
