Dhaka: Foreign aid commitments to Bangladesh from development partners rose sharply in the first five months (July-November) of the current fiscal year (FY26), more than doubling compared to the same period last year.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, an updated report released by the Economic Relations Division (ERD) today indicates that Bangladesh secured new loan agreements or commitments totaling approximately $1.219 billion from development partners between July and November. This figure marks a significant increase compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year (FY25), when commitments were only $522.68 million.
ERD officials noted that the overall improvement in the situation has contributed to the substantial rise in the volume of new commitments. ERD data further reveals that foreign loan disbursements also increased during the July-November period when compared to the same timeframe last year.
Development partners disbursed $1.94 billion during the period, while Bangladesh nearly matched this amount in repayments. During July-November of the current fiscal year, the country paid $1.89 billion in principal and interest on various foreign loans.
