Foreign Diplomats Witness Firsthand Impact, Pledge to Report to Their Governments


Phnom penh: A delegation of heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organisations in Cambodia concluded today its two-day inspection tour to areas affected by recent Cambodia-Thailand armed clashes with firsthand insight into the actual situation on the ground. The delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of MFAIC, inspected some affected areas by recent Thai military attacks and visited and offered aids to Sub Military Operation Zone in Samrong city, Prasat Tamone Senchey pagoda, Tamone heath centre, Thmar Daun area, centre of displaced persons at Phnom Thmar Kambor pagoda in Oddar Meanchey province, and camp for displaced civilians in Sotr Nikum district of Siem Reap province, H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), shared at a press briefing this afternoon.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the tour, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn briefed the foreign guests on the situation and facts on the ground. The participants highly appreciated the arrangement made by the Deputy Prime Minister and the MFAIC, which allowed them to witness the real situation and to directly contact with armed forces at the frontline, teachers and displaced civilians in order to obtain actual information.



Ambassadors and representatives of some embassies have given interviews to journalists about their observations. H.E. Chum Sounry reported that the Malaysian ambassador said he would report the urgent need for a monitoring mechanism to ensure the effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement. The Chinese ambassador announced a donation of US$100,000 to the Thmar Kambor Camp. Japanese ambassador and the other ambassadors and representatives said they would report the situation to their respective capitals.
