Dhaka: Former home minister and BNP vice chairman Major General (Retd.) Mahmudul Hasan passed away today at the age of 90. Mahmudul Hasan, who also served as a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Tangail-5 constituency, breathed his last at 3 pm at his residence in the capital due to complications related to old age. He is survived by his son, daughter, numerous relatives, colleagues, admirers, and well-wishers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the veteran politician's passing was confirmed by Mahmudul Haque Sanu, the former member secretary of the district BNP. The namaz-e-janaza for the deceased is scheduled to be held tomorrow, Thursday, January 1, at Bindubasini Government Boys High School ground in Tangail after the Zohr prayers.
In a statement expressing his condolences, BNP Vice Chairman Abdus Salam Pintu and BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku expressed profound shock at the death of Mahmudul Hasan. Sultan Salahuddin Tuku mentioned that the late leader was a dedicated social worker and a responsible individual who contributed significantly to education and social development.
He conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
